The Corinthian family of Aladdin lamps is largest and most diverse family of Aladdin lamps. It includes sixteen different lamps.  The solid colors include amber, green, and clear crystal along with white, "apple green"," jade green", and rose moonstone.  The white moonstone, and clear crystal founts were then used to create combinations consisting of: clear fount/green foot, clear fount/amber foot, white moonstone fount/rose moonstone foot, and white moonstone fount/ jade green foot.  A black crystal foot was also used to create a clear fount/black foot, and white moonstone fount/black foot combination. This so called "black crystal" base when held up to a strong light source may reveal a very dark shade of amethyst, cobalt, green, or red. To make the group even more diverse, there were three different styles of metal connectors used to connect the founts to the feet.  Two were "white metal" connectors of slightly different design, while the third was a smooth brass connector.

 The lamps were molded in two pieces and then glued together with aid of the metal connectors between the fount and the foot.  The glue used in the process is the inherent weakness of this family due to the fact that it is heat sensitive.  If left in the sun and allowed to heat up the glue will soften which can allow the glass fount and foot to separate when moved.  Often with disastrous results to one or both parts.

   Also the  foot often has a thin layer of glass running around the bottom edge. This glass "flash" should have been ground off in finishing at the factory but was often left creating an area that is very easily chipped. Some bases do appear to have been ground smooth and are the ones you will most often find without chips. You will recognize this problem area easily by running your finger along the edge of the base--if it feels sharp it has not been ground. On close inspection you will see the thin jagged edge protruding out from the base. If you should find a good lamp that has this troublesome area be careful not to bump the edge when setting the lamp down, as this is what causes most chips.
